Machinery Regulation: preparing for 2027
The European Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 generally applies from 20 January 2027. It replaces the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. For machinery projects scheduled for delivery around this transition, it is wise to establish early which rules apply. The order or design date alone does not determine this.
The regulation takes greater account of digital control systems and connected machinery. It includes requirements to protect control systems against unwanted interference and rules on substantial modifications to machinery. It also allows digital instructions under certain conditions.
For a machinery project, this means discussing safety functions, the role of software, connections to other systems and the required documentation at an early stage. Responsibilities for the work and assessments should also be agreed. An existing machine does not require a complete reassessment solely because of the new date. However, modifications must be considered to determine which obligations arise.
DI Installaties supports electrical engineering, technical drawings and control systems. We coordinate our contribution with the client and, where needed, a machinery safety specialist. This helps align the technical work and documentation with the project requirements.
